Open/Set Region Automation to Control Change 30 (CC30). It is possible to write “programs” for MIDI devices that aren’t notes being played.

The MIDI specification lists CC30 as “undefined”. Device (software) manufacturers are free to use CC30 for their own purposes.

You can easily add an automation point, assuming automation lanes are visible, by clicking in the track.

The commands do not work if automation is hidden.
