Welcome to the Logic Pros Live Loops Launchpad diary. Apple’s grid-based music production environment works wonders with its pricey tablets and handsets, but it’s the colorful Novation pad controllers that have caught our interest. Initially designed for something else entirely, it’s time to see what these almost reversed-engineered, repurposed controllers are worth to Logic Pro users.

Show Tracks View only ⌥N — Logic Pro keyboard command of the day

  Show Tracks View only ⌥N

In the main window. Show the tracks view only. If the Live Loops view is open it is hidden.

Logic Pro Tracks area overview — Apple Support

The Tracks area is where you arrange regions to build your project. The Tracks area, located in the center of the Logic Pro main window, shows a visual representation of time moving from left to right. You build your project by arranging regions in rows, called tracks, that run from the beginning to the end of the Tracks area.

The documentation claims

When you open Logic Pro, the Tracks area appears in the main window. You can also open the Tracks area as a separate window.

I can find no command or reference that would let me open the Tracks area as a separate window.

The closest to that is turning everything off (inspectors, lists, editing, mixer, controls) and locking a screenset with the tracks visible.

Show/Hide Live Loops Grid — Logic Pro keyboard command of the day

  Show/Hide Live Loops Grid

In the main/Arrange window. Shows or hides the ‘Live Loops’ grid (like an expandable Ableton Live controller). There is a button in the function menu, just to the right of the ‘View’ menu — 9 squares — that performs the command.

Logic Pro Live Loops overview — Apple Support

Live Loops lets you arrange and play with musical ideas in real time in a grid of cells, each containing a musical phrase or loop. You can start and stop cells freely while keeping everything in sync with the beat and the project tempo. Each grid row uses the same signal routing and channel strip settings as the adjacent track in the Tracks area. Cells in grid columns, called scenes, can be triggered together to act as musical sections. An extensive set of parameters gives you full control over playback, recording, and looping, so you can spontaneously take your music in new directions.

Retrigger Selected Cells or Focused Scene ⌃⌘↩ — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

Retrigger Selected Cells or Focused Scene ⌃⌘↩

Retriggers the selection. No need to move the mouse and click on it. Lots of new things with Live Loops.

Retrigger: If a cell is playing and you click it again, it starts playing from the beginning. Cells set to Retrigger can be stopped only by starting another cell in the same row, by stopping the row using the Divider column, or by stopping the entire grid.
