Toggle the use of fixed value when creating steps.

Create steps in the Step Editor in Logic Pro — Apple Support

You can assign a fixed value when creating event steps. When enabled, the Fix Value item in the Lane Set pop-up menu prevents any event value from being altered with the Pointer or Pencil tool.

It might be useful to read some of the Logic Pro 9 manual describing the Hyper Editor (Step Editor in X) for a discussion of ‘fix value’ and other nuanced behaviors…

You can also assign a fixed value when creating events. The Fix Value checkbox in the Inspector, when selected, prevents any event value from being altered with the Pointer or Pencil tool.

Logic Pro MIDI Transform window overview — Apple Support

The MIDI Transform window is a powerful tool for edits that would otherwise be impossible (or tedious). For example, imagine an orchestral project that has been sent to you for editing. The individual violin and viola parts were recorded with a different string library. Two hundred MIDI regions contain aftertouch information that introduces an unpleasant pitch modulation, and some sample layer switching artifacts when played with your string samples. After looking at this aftertouch information, you discover that only a small range of values is causing the problem. Your options: edit your sampler instruments, manually remove all aftertouch information (region by region, or globally, thus losing the performance benefits that the aftertouch information provides), or alter the problematic values in the MIDI Transform window.

Make Alias but Copy Folder — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

  Make Alias but Copy Folder

I am not sure of the subtlety of copying the folder vs. simply making an alias.

There can be huge benefit to using aliases for recurring parts in a song. Change the original, the alias follows along. It is also quite easy to use the same part, but transposed, using an alias. Logic for the win.

Aliases do have some differences from their “parent” region: you can give each alias its own name, and edit region parameters for each alias independently.

Set Note Color By MIDI Channel — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

Set Note Color By MIDI Channel

Set the color of each note on a particular MIDI channel to the same color. This command is available in the Piano Roll editor, sub-menu of ‘View’.

I cannot find any method for choosing the color for a MIDI channel. It appears that they are simply assigned the first 16 colors of the Color palette, across the top row.

Next note will be flat ⇧B — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

Next note will be flat ⇧B

When using the Step Input Keyboard pressing shift-B indicates that the next note input will be flat. Shift-3 for sharp.

Use step input recording in Logic Pro — Apple Support

Step input allows you to insert MIDI notes when you’re not recording in real time. You can use step input to create note runs that may be too fast for you to play or to replicate sheet music that’s too difficult for you to play.
