Next note will be flat ⇧B — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

Next note will be flat ⇧B

When using the Step Input Keyboard pressing shift-B indicates that the next note input will be flat. Shift-3 for sharp.

Use step input recording in Logic Pro — Apple Support

Step input allows you to insert MIDI notes when you’re not recording in real time. You can use step input to create note runs that may be too fast for you to play or to replicate sheet music that’s too difficult for you to play.

1/16 Note 5 — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

  1/16 Note 5

Switches the note/rest value to a sixteenth note. Any notes/rests entered will be sixteenths.

I can’t remember far enough back to compare the Logic ‘Step Input’ with Finale or Studio Vision (the tools I used in 1990) but with a bit of practice single voice part entry could be almost as fast as using a pen on paper — possibly even faster.

  Note “G” G

In the past I claimed that the “F” key was the only key on the Musical Typing Keyboard that was “true”. The G key will also insert a note that is a G — my bad.

I keep forgetting that if I want to play in some notes to record, or try out an instrument, that I can bring up the Musical Typing Keyboard — ⌘K — and play some notes.

Octave 1 — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

  Octave 1

Set the octave of the Step Input Keyboard. Will set the octave starting at C1.

A more typical case would be to use the Z and X keys for shifting octaves — just like on little 25 key keyboards with octave up/down buttons.

I suspect that with practice I could become a MIDI note “touch-typist”.Keyboard

1/128 Note 8 — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day. #LogicProX @StudioIntern1

  1/128 Note 8

Set the default note duration to a 1/128th note. Kind of overkill? I’ve seen and played 1/64th notes but 1/128?It isn’t even shown on the keyboard 😉
