Open/Close Instrument Plug-in Window of focused Track

This command replaces the need to click on the Instrument slot of the channel strip to open the instrument. It also saves the need to click the close box to make the window vanish.

Assigning this command to a keypress is highly useful. I have combined it with corresponding ‘Open/Close Audio Insert n of focused track’ so I can quickly pop open the plug-ins.

In Logic Pro, click the center area of the plug-in slot.

  Delete Selected Audio File Group(s)

Remove the grouping of the audio files. The files are not deleted. The group is deleted.

You cannot delete a group that is based on file attributes or selected regions, choose a different grouping mechanism.

Select the files you want to group, choose View > Create Group, enter a name in the Name field, then press Enter.

Select the files you want to group, then choose one of the following from View > Group Files by:

• Location: Creates groups that are alphabetically sorted by the names of the parent folders of selected files. Folder names are automatically used as group names.
• File Attributes: Creates groups based on the attributes of selected files (file type, stereo/mono, bit depth). Group names are displayed as a summary of the file attributes—16 bit Mono AIFF, for example).
• Selection in Tracks: Creates groups based on regions selected in the Tracks area. Group names are based on the first of the selected regions.

Move the playhead to marker number 12. The ‘Go to Marker’ keyboard commands are assigned to the keypad on the extended keyboards. I rarely jump to a specific marker, preferring to move forward and backward between them.

I try to create markers that have a definite length so I can set the locators and enable cycle for the current marker. I use the Marquee tool to select an area followed by commands to create the marker and cycle. Once that is done I can step through the marked locations in the project and work on the specific area.

The marker numbers in these commands refer to the (serial) order of all markers in the project. By default, when you create a marker, the name shows the marker number.

  Close Track Stack    ⌃⌘←

Closes the currently selected track stack. I use summing track stacks to work with “stems”, and to help organize the tracks. When I want to work on a stack I simple select the stack and switch the mixer view to ‘Single’. This places the AUX, all the channels that route to the AUX, and the output path from the AUX (mix, sends, stereo out). Very handy.

Folder stacks (VCA groups) provide a simple visual way to control volume, solo, and mute for the group.

Summing stacks work like sub-mixes with inserts and sends.

You can hide the subtracks of a Track Stack to save space in the Tracks area, or show them in order to record or edit. You can add or remove tracks from a Track Stack, and reorder tracks in a Track Stack (reordering tracks doesn’t affect the sound).

Move the playhead to marker number 11. This keyboard command (control-1) is only assigned to the numeric keypad on extended keyboards.

You can navigate through your project using markers. This is useful when you want to quickly jump to, and edit, regions or events at a specific position in your project, for example.

I need to start using markers in Logic in a similar manner to using them in my text editors. Mark a section for easy recall, and to highlight for further attention.
