Snap Automation Mode: 1/2 Triplet (1/3)

When creating things “in tempo” it can be very valuable to apply automation at the proper place in performance.

Can I automate articulations? Doesn’t appear to be possible (or maybe even reasonable.)

Snap automation to grid positions — Logic Pro X

You can snap track automation to grid positions. You can choose if you want automation to automatically use the division value chosen in the Snap menu, or you can choose a different snap value for automation.

Automation modes determine how automation tracks are treated. Automation is either being read or being written. You can independently set the automation mode for each track. You can also trim automation values and record relative automation data.

  Region Automation: Modulation

In addition to Volume, and Pan you can automate almost any MIDI event. That’s a staggering amount of control of tracks, devices, and even Logic itself.

Show automation curves — Logic Pro X

Before you can add automation points to a track’s automation curves, you need to show the automation curves. Automation curves are displayed as colored curves and points on top of audio and MIDI regions across the track, running the length of the project. You can choose whether to view and edit automation across the track (track-based automation) or only within the track’s regions (region-based automation).

Toggle Current Track Automation Trim Mode — Logic Pro X keyboard command of the day

Toggle Current Track Automation Trim Mode

Heavy use of automation required. I have to remember that the DAW is where things are produced and polished. Coming from the ‘live’ side of things I am usually oblivious to the tools available for making changes to a ‘recording’ after the fact.

I really do need to pay attention to automation.

Choose automation modes — Logic Pro X

Trim: Offsets the value of the existing automation (Volume, Pan, Send levels) by adjusting it up or down by the amount you move the fader or control. Works in combination with Touch and Latch automation modes.
