Toggle Hide Group 34 — Logic Pro keyboard command of the day

  Toggle Hide Group 34

Toggle the hidden state of group 34. Currently the documentation says that you can only have 32 groups. Commands for groups 33-64 were added to Logic at some point, and I declared them to be bogons. At some point Logic has actually made it possible for there to be 64 groups. For me, once you pass about 8 groups you have too many to remember by number and have to have visual support, like the Groups window.

Oddly? The Groups window can only be sized tall enough to accommodate viewing 33 groups. You need to scroll to see things from group 34 onward.

Edit group membership in Logic Pro — Apple Support

You can add a channel strip to, or remove a channel strip from, single or multiple groups. You can also temporarily disable all group parameter links—applying a Group Clutch—to change the volume of an individual channel strip, for example.

Hiding groups hides channels in the mixer, and associated tracks in the Main Window.

Select Members of Group 6 — Logic Pro keyboard command of the day

  Select Members of Group 6

Select all of the channels/tracks that are members of group 6.

Groups are useful. I would start by making sure that I have the Groups Inspector available as a separate window. I would name all of my groups with something meaningful. I would select members of a group by clicking on the group name and using the gear menu to select the members.

The Group tool on the MCU is a good way to perform the functions of the Group window. The Group number display is lacking, having only two positions, so we get G1, G2, … G9, G1…..G1, G2 and so on. If the group is named then the first 10 characters of the name are displayed in the information panel.

You use the Groups inspector to define the behavior of each Mixer group. The Groups inspector appears in the Track inspector when one or more groups have been created, and it can be opened as a floating window as well. It contains the following settings:

Prior to mixing, you may find it useful to define some logical channel strip groups. You could, for example, group all drum channel strips under one drum group. This would allow you to control the group meters (volume, pan, mute, solo, sends, and so on) using a single control, while still maintaining the relative parameter values of each channel strip.
